A revolutionary live artist and DJ with a shining reputation for versatility, Gavin Lynch’s outstanding technical knowhow means no compromise on quality and his ‘Matador’ moniker has delighted dancefloors for the past decade.
Raised on Motown, progressing to Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd, Orbital, Kasabian..., the teenage Matador was inspired by electronic giants Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Jeff Mills. Having completed a degree in sound engineering and honing his musical skill, he was boosted from underground DJ status when Hawtin snapped him up for his Minus imprint, and a series of releases and high- profile remix work quickly followed. A resident at the infamous ENTER events in Ibiza and worldwide; the Irish producer has toured non-stop since 2012 playing everything from major festivals such as Awakenings, Creamfields, Neopop, Time Warp, Tomorrowland, and Ultra Music Festival, to club shows and music conferences such as ADE and MMW.
Matador cites career highlights such as a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2014, being part of the CNTRL Tour – A College Campus Tour in the US in 2015, and his role as a Brand Ambassador for the MODEL 1 analog professional performance mixer since its launch in 2016. Industry recognition and awards include ‘Best Electronic Live Performer’ at the Ibiza DJ Awards twice, and featuring on Resident Advisor’s ‘Top 20 Live Acts’ for three years.
In 2016 he launched his own label ‘RUKUS’ with a series of events and parties to accompany it, releasing and supporting music from emerging and established artists within the electronic genre. His remix of Oxia’s ‘Domino’ reached no.1 in the Beatport All Genre Chart and was also their no.1 techno track for 2017. Stepping into the world of television sync, his track ‘Inceptions’ was featured in Sky One’s hit series ‘Strike Back’ and has garnered interest in the Matador sound across the wider music industry and sound-scape scene. Airline giants British Airways featured his ‘Sunrise Mix’ in conjunction with Deeper Sounds for their in-flight entertainment system throughout 2018, and in 2019, presented by Mixmag, Matador streamed a sumptuous melodic techno set live from the Hollywood Hills.
His electrifying musical output spans genres and formats. From his vinyl only series ‘Cyclone’ firmly rooted in techno, to his exquisite stream only, ambient album ‘Tuesday’, Matador’s passion for sound has no boundaries. His talent as a solo artist and his work on collaborative projects have propelled him to the forefront of today’s ever-changing, fast paced industry, and his performance with Zurich’s prestigious Tonhalle Orchestra highlighted his dexterity as a truly authentic musician.
As an ardent equipment enthusiast, 2020 sees the launch of Matador’s podcast focusing on studio gear and featuring interviews with touring artists, tech talk, music, and everything in between. His new live show is also in the works – Live 2.0 – presenting a catalogue of new music from studio to stage.
